When communication breaks down…
We talk all day long. In fact, we talk so much that we take communication for granted. This works well enough until a challenge arises. How do we communicate when there is conflict, or we don’t know the answer, or when we’re nervous?
Steering into the skid
Think of when you were learning to drive–you probably learned that, if the car starts to skid, you turn into it. Most times when you buckle yourself into the driver’s seat, you won’t use this information. But if you hit a patch of ice, you’ll be glad for the knowledge.
Communication is similar–mostly it goes fine, with a few misunderstandings here and there. But when you’re aware of how to manage the elements of communication, you can avoid misunderstanding and you’re prepared when you hit a tricky spot. In fact, changing just a few aspects of the way we communicate can lead to improved business and interpersonal results.
Here’s how it works.
This workshop breaks down the elements of communication—listening, non-verbals, and speaking— and shows participants a new, more intentional way to employ them. We do this through a series of exercises that ask the participants to test drive these skills. The group works together to learn to communicate in this new way, and in the process forms a bond.
We highly recommend that working teams take this course together.
