Fundamentals of Storytelling

197HWhy stories?

Human beings are wired for narrative. We look for meaning, for patterns, in everything around us. Stories are how we make sense of the world.

This means that storytelling is one of the most fundamental methods of communication in our world. The use of stories in a presentation or speech personalizes your connection with your audience. It can feel more efficient to state data points or information in a presentation, but your audience will remember a story that conveys that data much better.

How do stories work?

Successful stories follow certain patterns and rhythms. This holds true across cultures and across time. Think about fairy tales, TV shows, movies, books…all stories have certain elements in common that make them compelling to us as listeners.

Ignite CSP’s Fundamentals of Storytelling workshop includes:

  • An overview of how stories work structurally, and why
  • Insight into how stories can serve more than one purpose
  • The importance of humor in storytelling, and how (and whether!) to use it
  • Brainstorming and crafting a story that exemplifies a core value
  • Practicing delivery of the story

The outcome of this workshop is for every participant to have a stable of stories they can draw on that demonstrate their values. We also coach the participants to be comfortable telling the story they worked on, and to be able to apply the fundamentals of storytelling.

The Fundamentals of Storytelling workshop is designed for eight participants per coach, to allow everyone time to develop, share, and practice their stories.

The Fundamentals of Storytelling workshop is four hours long.

The cost of the Fundamentals of Storytelling workshop is $6,000 per eight person cohort.
